Bulgaria: Forum in support of policies on gender equality

On March 7, 2017, the eve of International Women’s Day, when mark more than a hundred years of struggle for women’s rights and equality in society, Bulgarian union of teachers (SEB), in partnership with "Public Women Parliament - 21st Century", Confederation of independent Trade unions in Bulgaria (CITUB) and the Union of transport Trade unions in Bulgaria (FTTUB) initiated a national conference on gender equality.

This important forum was attended by more than 150 representatives of state institutions, local authorities, NGOs, directors of schools and SEB members, media and others.
Scientific report on issues of gender inequalities in the labor market and the employment balance for reconciling work and family life gave Assoc. Prof. Dr. Lilia Dimova - national coordinator of the European Social Survey and the International Programme for Social Research in Bulgaria. Phd. Yanka Takeva focus on issues related to gender, female leadership and the place of women in socio-economic, political and social life. During the conference were discussed measures how to improve policies to achieve economic independence and empowerment of women, elimination of violence against women overcome discrimination at home and in the workplace, inequality in employment, wages and access to the labor market. Were shared best practices aimed at raising public awareness on issues related to multiple discrimination, violence, abuse of personality and achievement of gender equality at all levels.

During the event participants adopted a declaration supporting the improvement of policies for gender equality. On the occasion of International Women’s Day, phd Yanka Takeva honored with diplomas most active members of the Commission on equality, family, women, children to CITUB and "Public Women Parliament - 21st Century", social partners and others.
