The loss of Trade Union movement: demise of Tamaz Dolaberidze

The trade union movement mourns the loss of an extraordinary trade union leader, Tamaz Dolaberidze, who passed away on Saturday. Tamaz Dolaberidze started trade union activity in 1992 as an ordinary trade union member. In 2004, he was elected as Deputy Chairman of the Independent Trade Union “Assistance” in “Rustavi Azoti” Plant. In 2006-2010, he was the deputy chairman of Trade Union Organization of JSC “Energy Invest”. Since 2007, Tamaz Dolaberidze has been trainer of the Georgian Trade Unions Confederation. He was a representative of the GTUC President in Kvemo Kartli region. Since 2010, he has been the Chair of Metallurgy, Mining and Chemical Sector Workers’ Trade Union. Starting from 2016 he has been deputy member of the Executive Committee of IndustriALL Global Union. In 2017 he was elected as Vice President of the Georgian Trade Unions Confederation (GTUC).

The EU-Georgia Association Council meeting on 16 March is called on to do more to advance workers’ rights and European values by the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) and Georgian Trade Union Confederation (GTUC).

Meeting of Trade Union leaders of three EU Association Agreement countries

On 23-24 of September by the initiative of the ILO and support of ITUC PERC in Tbilisi was organized a meeting of Trade Union leaders of three EU Association Agreement countries - Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine. During the meeting, leaders shared experiences and opinions of implementation of Association Agreements on national levels. Tragedy in a coal mine in Georgia

Four miners were killed and six injured on Monday when the roof of a coal mine in western Georgia collapsed as a result of an explosion that occurred at the Mindeli mine on the Monday morning.

President of Georgia assures ILO representatives of his full support to improving work safety and labour rights

On 18th of April, H.E. Giorgi Margvelashvili, President of Georgia, discussed labour safety issues with representatives of trade unions and the Inernational Labour Organization (ILO). The meeting focused on the recent tragic workplace incidents in coalmines in the city of Tkibuli, mechanisms for labour inspection to prevent such accidents and Georgian labour legislation that, according to President Margvelashvili, requires further improvement.
