ITUC project "Decisions for Life"

3 February 2009: DECISIONS FOR LIFE aims to promote formal employment and equal opportunities at the labor market. It targets adolescent female workers and job seekers. The project’s main objective is to raise awareness amongst these young female workers concerning future employment opportunities and career possibilities, family building, and the work-family balance.

DECISIONS FOR LIFE focuses on 14 developing countries, notably Brazil, India, Indonesia, the CIS countries Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, and the southern African countries Angola, Botswana, Malawi, Mozambique, South Africa, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. It targets adolescent women in the service industries. The project will deploy two mutually reinforcing approaches. The main activities will be trade union campaigns in 12 of the 14 countries, including in face-to-face meetings and training sessions, and dissemination of offline materials. Second, the Internet is used to target these occupational groups, aiming to reach one million women online.
