Tell the UN to respect its workers!

The United Nation’s central administration has decided to unilaterally adopt a labour-relations policy which rolls back hard-won negotiating rights for its staff representatives.

The UN failed to discuss serious compromise proposals put forward by the staff union, and walked out on a negotiation session in Mexico City earlier this year.

The UN has been unapologetic in defending its position denying bargaining rights to staff, even though a UN internal body issued legal opinions in 2011 and 2012 that recognized the legality of negotiations with staff and urged the promotion of full bargaining rights.

At a time when collective bargaining and negotiating rights are under attack around the world, the UN is sending the wrong signal.

The UN Secretary-General must ensure that the United Nations stands up for its own principles.

We urge you to tell the UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon to ensure that the UN to respect its workers by extending to them the rights enshrined the fundamental conventions of the International Labour Organisation.
