The 5th NE Summer school in Palanga

On 2009 June 26 – July 1 in Palanga Lithuania, the 5th international trade union youth summer school for North-East Europe countries young trade unionists organised . School was prepared by ITUC/PERC Vilnius office with assistence of FES and LO-TCO Sweden and Lithuanian trade union centres.

This school has already become a good tradition: this year it was organised for the fifth time. This school gathers active Trade Union youth from different countries so that they can share their good practices, discuss different issues of youth. Present and future Trade Union leaders can present themselves and their ideas. This year almost 60 participants from Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Russia, Belarus, Poland, Ukraine are participating.

The fifths school‘s subject is „Protecting the rights of youth in the time of crisis“. As well the purpose of meeting is to make a better coordination between region youth committees and in the PERC family. Each of the Confederations presented their work with young people and organising of diferent campains. Also participants introduced to each other their countries, traditions, customs.

On Monday, June 29, youth organised street action called „Summer patrol“. Members split into 8 groups and went in the streets of Palanga asking people about the problems they were facing at their working places, were explaining the ideas of unionism, existing unions and their activities, agitating young people to join Unions. During this campain people could get free of charge advice from lawyers of Lithuanian TU in the city center.
