Access to safe and healthy work is an undeniable right of all workers. While the general statistics with regard to work accidents are improving, but at the same time there are worrying trends in certain sectors and forms of employment, where there has been a deterioration of working conditions and an increase in occupational ill-health. The exploitative and mortally dangerous working conditions that caused dramatic accidents in the mining industry in Russia, Ukraine and Albania, the dangers of cancer from workplaces and the natural environment, unequal access to healthcare facilities, increasing stress and the spread of HIV/AIDS still raise the question of whether work in Europe is safe.
