Representative of different stakeholders participated in the Conference: coordinators of the International Labor Organization from Kosovo and BiH, representatives of governments and employers’ organizations from the Western Balkan countries, professor from the School of Economics in Perugia – Italy, Milica Uvalić, esteemed professors and scientific workers from the countries in the Region, presidents and experts from the Western Balkan trade unions (Albania, Montenegro, Macedonia, Serbia, Croatia, Kosovo, and Bosnia and Herzegovina), colleagues from the LO Norway trade unions, and EU expert Martin Hutsebaut.
Objective of the Conference was to present results of three-year regional Project, titled “Tackling taxation, informal economy, and corruption in the Western Balkans – towards better governance and democratic processes”, jointly implemented by International Trade Union Confederation / Pan European Regional Council – Regional Office in Sarajevo, trade union LO Norway and experts from the Western Balkan countries, and financially supported by the Government of the Kingdom of Norway. The Conference was tripartite by its character, which means that the trade unions had an opportunity to talk to the representatives of the other two social partners and present their views, professional and trade union proposals aimed at fairer design of taxation policies, comprehensive and serious activities aimed at suppression of informal economy and corruption, with the ultimate goal of achieving better governance and democratic processes.
