KVPU: Disabled miners went on hunger strike

In the morning of 14th of June in Kiev, about a hundred disabled miners from different regions of Ukraine have begun a protest near the Ministry of Social Policy.

The members of the Independent Trade Union of Miners of Ukraine also were participating in the protest.

Their demands are: to recalculate the monthly insurance payments, pensions and to adopt a relevant bill.

As the protest was ineffective, protesters decided to continue it inside the Ministry of Social Policy. Disabled miners laid down near the executives’ offices and have started a hunger strike.

"These people have lost their health at work and they deserve dignity life and social protection. In addition, they need money for treatment. But, unfortunately, today they are forced to fight for their social and economic rights", - said head of the Confederation of Free Trade Unions of Ukraine and the Independent Trade Union of Miners of Ukraine Mihaylo Volynets.
