PERC OSH Network meeting for the Balkans, 2 -3 November

The PERC OSH Network meeting for the Balkans took place from 2 to 3 November in Igalo, Montenegro. OSH experts from Croatia, Montenegro, Serbia, BIH, Macedonia, Albania and Kosovo took part in the meeting. The main issues on the agenda were: discussion on current key OSH challenges in the participating countries; most dangerous hazards in different sectors; presentation of ITUC campaign on fighting against climate change, decent jobs and green economy; trade unions and labor inspection; interaction of trade unions with national strategy in OSH.

Group work was organized on reporting incidents, occupational diseases, the role of trade unions in relation with labor inspection; strategies on preventive measures. Participants stressed the importance of raising awareness on labor accidents, developing prevention measures, trade union role in risk assessment, cooperation between unions and labor inspection representatives, role of education and dissemination of information. Enisa Salimovic, director of the ITUC/PERC Sarajevo office presented developments in the region, ways of regional cooperation; Viktor Kempa, ETUI senior researcher presented the ETUI campaigns on OSH and the EU developments on OSH issues. Participants agreed on the necessity to further strengthen and stabilize the OSH network, to work systematically in between the annual meetings of the network, to work on national OSH profiles and risk assessment strategies.
