Belarus: ITUC voices its concerns about free trade union discrimination at a Bobruisk plant

ITUC General Secretary, Sharan Burrow, sent a letter to the Director of Bobruisk Plant of Tractor Parts and Units, JSC, Alexander Agranovich, where she expressed her concern and anxiety about the reprisals which take place at the enterprise against the members of the free trade union. The members of the free trade union are under pressure only because they have exercised their legal right to join a free trade union, which is guaranteed by the Constitution of Belarus as well as ratified ILO Convention 87 on the freedom of association.

On March 25th, the leader of Bobruisk plant free trade union organisation, Mikhail Kovalkov, and other four workers had to go on a three-day warning hunger strike with an end to stop blatant discrimination of free trade union members at the enterprise. The number of hunger strikers rose to twelve people.
