Sad news from Slovakia: Mr Ivan SAKTOR died at the age of 66

He was president of the KOZ SR from 1996 until 2006. May he rest in peace.

It is with deep sorrow that ITUC and PERC received the sad news from the Confederation of Trade Unions of the Slovak Republic of the passing of our esteemed colleague and friend, true trade unionist and former long-standing president of the Confederation of Trade Unions of the Slovak Republic, Mr Ivan SAKTOR. He died on 28 July 2021 at the age of 66.

He was president of the base-level trade union organisation, after November 1989, he became member of the acting presidency of the first Congress of the Czechoslovak Confederation of Trade Unions, vice-president of Federal Trade Union of Transport Workers and president of its Slovak council with its seat in Banská Bystrica. Later, he became president of SPOJE Trade Union, member of the Presidium and Board of the Confederation of Trade Unions of the Slovak Republic. He was president of the Confederation of Trade Unions of the Slovak Republic from 1996 until 2006.

Ivan was the Vice-President of ICFTU from 1996 to 2000, active member of its Central and Eastern Europe Trade Union Council, and he will be remembered as true trade unionist.

Our thoughts at this sad time are first and foremost with his family and with those closest to him.
