28-30 May 2013, 43 participants of the meeting, including trade union representatives of different branches of the Georgian Confederation, ITUC and International organizations have been discussing acute issues of social protection and social security of workers. Sergeyus Glovackas, Senior Workers’ Specialist of the ILO Moscow presented a picture of the social security in countries of the region.
The meeting was followed by the presentation of the Trade Union Women leaders from Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russian (G. Kelekhsaeva from FNPR), Tajikistan and three representatives from the Ukraine. All of them shared the general situation in the countries, describing the country profile with legislations and implementation of the ILO Conventions.
The activity was supported by the ITUC and PERC and organized by the GTUC with the special contribution and coordination from Eteri Matureli, Vice President of the GTUC, president women’s committee in GTUC and member of the PERC Women’s Committee.
ILO Expert – Senior specialists on Labour Standards (Alain Pelce) has done comprehensive explanation of the importance of the ILO Conventions in collective bargaining. Mariko Ouchi, Senior specialist on Social Security presented the ILO Strategy for extension of social security and the role of international social security standards, focusing on C102 and R202 – ILO instruments. The PERC representative, Olga Nicolae explained the use of ILO instruments in collective bargaining and gender dimension in negotiating collective labor agreements.
The meeting consisted of round table discussion and working groups having an interactive character and giving the possible to all participants to actively take part in the discussion. The main issues discussed focused on : Preparation of Action plans on C 102 and R 202 campaigning and promotion of on national and sub-regional levels; how to strengthen the women network in the sub-region. Special attention has been given to action as concerns the changes in the labour code concerning gender issues.
The proposals made during the working groups as concerns the action plan on sub regional level will be presented to the PERC Women’s School in Sofia in October.
